To start off this post, I feel like I owe an apology to two people. First, Jennifer, because she tweeted about telling herself that she did ‘not need’ a Cricut last week and I pretty much feel like I am saying “nanner nanner poo poo” to her with this post. The invitation stands, though, Jennifer.
Second, to Cindy. I feel like we have the kind of friendship where you don’t learn about new big ticket items from each other’s blogs, be they birthday gifts or premeditated purchases. So, sorry about this.
Hey look everybody! A new baby has joined O My Family. Interweb, this is Cricut Cutter. Cricut, this is interweb.

Our journey to adding this baby to our family goes a little something like this: I wanted to put a Bible verse on the wall above OBaby’s crib. Really badly I wanted to, so I went to the websites of places that make that sort of thing and priced out the custom vinyl lettering for the badly-desired verse. $85. EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS. For a non-permanent wall lettering thingy. I’d like to say here that I was instantly over that idea as it is clearly not a responsible use of $85 of my husband’s our hard earned dollars, but that would be a lie.
But it’s our first baby! It will be the perfect accent to the nursery! It’s a BIBLE verse, DanO! How can you say no to a Bible verse?!
Only he did say no. Which was the right thing to say. (See, hunny? I usually come around.)
My dream of that verse on OBaby’s wall never really went away, just faded into the background. Occasionally I would come up with a solution like stenciling it on the wall or painting it on a piece of wood as a sign or any one of thirty things I suggested but we never got around to before my water broke*.
And then we visited my friend Jane in Oregon. She’s a craftaholic. She knows all the lingo and even used the term “scrap lifting”. You guys, she’s big league. You should see the amazing things she can customize: signs, wall words, window decals, etched glass… the woman can do it all mostly with the use of her mad creativity and a fancy Cricut Cutter.
(This is the part where you act like you don’t see what’s coming next.)
As we were walking out of her house, my antics were barely short of a toddler’s at Christmas time in Toys’R'Us.
“BUT DANO! I WANT! I WANT! I NEED! I NEEEEEEEED!”
The funny thing is, he was totally on board. Like, 400% on board with researching the cutter and all of sick-sweet-awesome things we could use it to make. Like this. Or this. OR THIS.
(Or maybe a verse to put over OBaby’s crib?)
Then this Monday, after DanO researched more, found the best deal, and my in-laws so graciously splurged on it for my birthday, the FedEx guy dropped my very own Cricut Cutter on my doorstep. Kind of like the stork.
The verse is yet to be made (we’ve had a very busy week) but rest ye assured, I will be making it, it will be awesome, and there will be pictures.
*Actually, we’re not even sure when my water broke which makes me kind of sad that I didn’t have that quintessential labor experience to bond with women over.

YOU! :) That’s hilarious! You nanner-nanner away my friend. I would be if I had one! And I could still get one for MY birthday, in March! ;)
I cannot wait to see what you come up with!
And you made me laugh so hard with your “I want I want I need I neeeed!!!” :) You sounded like my Fynn, and me a few times….
I love the cricut. I do not have one as my husband refuses to spend that much on something “like that”, even when it was on sale for black friday and I begged it just was not possible. I can not wait to see what you make with it. Enjoy your newest addition.
I am TOTALLY confused at how that little booger actually works.. like, completely. does it print it out?! What happens?!! Those links you posted were SOOO cute! I can’t wait to see the verse you picked. And pictures of OBaby’s room! :D How exciting!
Totally forgiven. Because holy cow could that scream ALLISON anymore???? That’s you to a T! But we should still hang out some time. Like…..really soon. As soon as I stop being sick so I don’t infect your baby who is learning how to sleep nicely at night. ‘k? Let’s pick a date!!
1. The Uppercase Living expression you linked to is what I originally wanted in our babe’s nursery. But that was before I was pregnant, and I had absolutely no idea what went in to creating a nursery. Now, I’m up in the air about which expression I want.
2. I’m an Uppercase Living Demonstrator. I could have totally hooked you up with a sweet deal if I knew you had been in the market. ;) Oh, you know, just in case you want something in the future.
3. Totally off-topic and of no benefit to you at the moment (plus, you are probably already well aware of it): gDiapers now has a New Baby Bundle that comes with their new tiny gPants for newborns! I’m totally psyched about it, because I was afraid we’d be using disposables until our little one was meaty enough to fit the smalls. Just so you know, because I know you can understand my excitement. :)
wow, i wish i was as craft savy as you:)
OMW! I didn’t know a device such as that existed! I might need to add that to my Christmas list:) (along with that Cannon Rebel camera that I’m sure I will not get.) Anyway, I love those wall decals and I had picked out like 4 that i NEEDED in my house, but they are expensive so I never got around to getting them. Now I NEED this thing so I can make my own and look like i’m an amazing interior decorator…even though I have no clue:)
I can’t wait to see your creations! My friend Leah created Luke’s first year scrapbook (and is currently working on Tommy’s!), so I gave her a Cricut for Christmas a few years ago… she almost passed out when she opened it. Since then, she’s done SO many fabulous projects with it.
oooo I.. .I mean Santa, gave my daughter one for Christmas. I hope she uses it some now and then now that I have played with it.
I worked at a daycare center, and the owner purchased the more expensive one at Wal-Mart for the teachers to use. It was so NEAT!! You can do so many things with it, which amazed me! I have been trying ot talk my husband into letting me get one ever since, with no luck so far. I am anxious to see what you come up with for the baby’s room!!!
I LOVE our cutter. It would be a wonderful thing for a daycare to have! They have an entire market for teachers. I hope I can be creative with it and use it to it’s full (expensive) value! I am constantly googling and drooling over new projects that I can use it for. Too bad I have a baby to take care of all day, I could be a Cricut MANIAC.
