i dare you not to laugh

As cool as DanO and I are, we spent New Years Eve on our couch drinking Mikes Harder Lemonade (no, that’s not a typo, the store was out of regular hard lemonade) and watching America’s Funniest Home Videos.

I know. You can’t even handle the classy.

But it was totally worth it to stay in and not try to find a sitter. It was awesome for it to be just us, spending the evening thinking about the year we’ve had, how much we’ve grown as individuals and together, and how excited we are for what God has in store for us next year.

There is so much laughter, joy, love, and adventure just waiting around our corner.

Soon, our house will be filled with the sound of little hands clapping, little voices laughing, and little feet running. We are only at the beginning of this. Lord willing, this is just the very, very beginning of our lives as parents.

It has been so good and I truly believe that it is going to be so good.

But that’s not what I came here to tell you. I came here to show you what had me nearly peeing my pants on New Year’s Eve. (You know, besides that whole birth thing that happened in July and is still kind of effecting me. ahem.)

This video is ridiculous and I don’t know if the likes of this cuteness has ever been recorded on film before. Seriously, I could watch it all year long.

May your 2010 be filled with laughter and joy.

Sounds like a perfect New Years to me!! I have absolutely NO desire to go out and brave crowds and drunks and ruining perfectly good clothes. I can do all that at home! ;)

    Blessings-
    Amanda

It really was perfect. Funny how life and circumstances can change our preferences so quickly and dramatically, huh? Happy New Year!

  2. I love that video! I love how the laugh alike, and when they laugh in unison it’s the best! Thanks for sharing.

    Happy New Year!

Isn’t it adorable? It won the grand prize on AFV last night.

OMW I’m on an abreviated name basis with America’s Funniest Home Videos. This is embarrassing.

what makes it Harder? did it taste Harder?

    • 6.AllisonO says:

It was 8% alcohol and yea, it tasted harder. DanO was disappointed by the kick it had and didn’t like it. Then again, the only wine he can handle is Riesling. So there’s that.

Sounds like it was a lovely evening :)
    Happy New Year!

It was! Completely different from all my other New Year’s Eves, that’s for sure. Happy New Year to you, too!

I don’t know how you could get anything else done if you knew you could make your babies laugh like that. I would do that ALL day if they were mine! The little one sucking his thumb is my fav!

    Happy new year!

The thumb sucker is my fave, too! I don’t know if I’d need to get anything else done. I’d pretty much die happy just sitting on that couch with laughing babies strewn about me.

I LUV that video. It is pure joy.

Oh my goodness! Four babies! (Breastfeeding? Ouch?) That is adorable…I couldn’t stop giggling! :) It sounds to me like you guys had a GREAT New Year’s Eve! Glad you got to ring it in (by? with?) relaxing! Happy 2010!

    • 17.AllisonO says:

I thought the same thing! ‘Was she buttoning her shirt from feeding them? Now THAT’s impressive!’

The relaxation was unprecedented. And awesome. I would totally do this every NYE, at least until I get the itch to feel like a cool 20 something with a night life again, but that would probably require putting on eyeliner and a bra… so it might be a while.

      Happy New Year!

Howdy! Just came across your blog yesterday :-)

We had a quiet New Year’s Eve here too. Our 6yr old played quietly in the playroom [while our 14 month old slept on teh floor in the living room] and actually made it to midnight for the first time (we’ve been allowing her to try to stay up on New Year’s Eve since she was 3). SHe was SO excited!

While oldest was playing, Jason and I watched a movie together.

Had to pause the movie to do a countdown with our oldest and gave each other kisses lol

That video is the absolute CUTEST!! Oh my word!!

What a fun age that she was able to stay up! I kind of think OBaby would have been less than excited had we made him the same offer. Happy New Year!

  10. That video is adorable! Who can doubt the sweet blessings babies bring when faced with this video, I ask you??

Oh, well probably the same people who think a night in with the family on NYE sounds lame. Not me, that’s for sure :) It sounds perfect. Happy New Year!

‘A night in with the family’. I love that I can have those, on NYE or any night. They are so, so much better than any other night life options I’ve had. Happy New Year to you, too!

So cute! At least it sounds like you stayed up for New Years. My husband and I and our 6 month old son were asleep at 11:00. And speaking of 6 month olds and sleeping, well, mine isn’t!! He gets up at least 3 times during the night to nurse. How did you get OBaby on a better sleep schedule? I would love some advice from one tired mommy to another! Thanks. BTW, I love your blog.

    • 23.AllisonO says:

Advice on sleep. Hahaha… you crack me up.

I am increasingly convinced that nothing I do really changes anything about OBaby’s sleep. The only thing it does is give me the fading satisfaction that I’m “doing something.” (Motion in any direction is better than no motion, right?) Co-sleeping was not working for anyone (most of us cried at least 2x a night), so we bought and read No Cry Sleep Solution. We put it in action and I feel pretty good about it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that OBaby is still sleeping the same (poorly) as he was in our bed, but Hey! We have a plan.

Other than that, coffee. And crying. I have spent much time with both.

Blessings on you and your little one! -AllisonO

My ovaries just exploded, thanks to that video. Oh man.

That is the PERFECT way to describe the result of watching that video. How could I not share it, I mean really?

  13. Hysterical video! And fun site! I have a 21 mos old and a 10 mos old and #3 is due March 8th. Sleep is pretty critical in our house. I have followed and loved Gina Ford’s “Contented Baby” books and schedules. Our girls have slept like champs. We have definitely had hurdles at growing/teething/switching to solids times, but the consistency is awesome and keeps us all sleeping! Best of luck to you!

Shanna, Thank you so much for the book recommend! I have not heard of her before but am definitely, DEFINITELY still looking for options and will check it out. Glad you swung by! -AllisonO
