The last 6 years have meant a total redefining of winter. First, moving from Oregon to Chicago 6 years ago meant HOLYCRAPTHELAKESFREEZE, along with eleventy bajillion other things that I’d never seen happened between December and March before (read: feet upon feet of yucky, dirty, gray snow lining the streets).
But this year, winter has received a redefining the likes of which I had not known.
It means that I always bundle up (when I wouldn’t have before), if only to be a good example.

It means a new understanding of just how big a snow pile is.

It means taking ‘playing in the snow’ to a whole new level.

It means redefining eskimo kisses.

It means so many exciting experiences to share with this little bear.

[This is part of You Capture, hosted by MY LOVELY FRIEND THAT I FINALLY MET AT CUPCAKE, Beth.]

I love these pictures!! He’s just so darn cute!
These are great captures and your little guy is as cute as he can be.
He is absolutely precious! I was scared he was just gonna sink on into that snow! Too cute.
I was scared too, but I married a brave Minnesotan who was comfortable so I tried to roll with it. It turned out just fine!
Awwww, what a precious little snow angel!
That is A TON of snow! And the eskimo kiss picture is the sweetest thing!!!!!
I thought so too! I don’t think there’s anything sweeter than seeing DanO be lovey with OBaby. :swoon:
Sweet pictures! Now THAT is a lot of snow.
Oh, now that makes me jealous!! Great pictures!
Your little one is too gosh darn cute stuck in that snow pile!
Thanks, Kristen!
These are super cute shots! I love the story they tell!
Oh how cute, I just love the snow you can have so much fun in it. Looks like your little man is loving it.
Thanks! It will be fun to watch my son grow up having this outdoor playground of snow that I didn’t grow up with – we’ll get to explore it together!
Thanks for visiting!
aw, he loves the snow! he’s adorable – as usual :)
Oh my gosh is he the most adorable thing! Love these!
I got cold just looking at him in the snow. Brrr! Great shot of your little one in that gargantuan snow pile. He looks like a lil monkey :)
We often call him a monkey now that he’s in the ‘squirm until I make it over to where I want to be’ stage. Too funny.
Those shots are so great! You’re a better mom than I… we have yet to really go play in the snow (though ours isn’t that pretty right now…)
O, please believe that this was DanO’s idea to take the 6mo old out in the snow to ‘play’ and he had to talk me into it the whole time. So much for that better mom illusion. ;)
I just love your family and these shots of Obaby are adorable! My little one used to have a Bear snowsuit like that which he wore last year and has now TOTALLY outgrown, thanks for the memory :)
Aren’t bear suits the cutest? I love that they just tack on ears to all things baby. I hope he never outgrows that. :picturing me adding bear ears to his baseball caps in 16 years:
He looks like he is having a blast!!!
That might be the single cutest thing EVER!
It’s true. I hate winter, but like everything else, having kids makes it better.
Sweet photos!
What a sweet way to put it! Thanks for commenting, Erin.
Great pictures! I can’t relate as I live in one of those states where weathermen report below 32 degrees “dangerous”, as I believe you once laughed about, but it LOOKS gorgeous…and cold…and fun. :)
I need these boys to help me see it as fun, but I’m learning! Thanks for commenting!
He is such a cutie! Lovely pictures!!
Those snow pictures are just adorable! I wish we had that much snow! Growing up playing in so much snow was fun…Just think about obaby playing and making forts one day! Aww! Now i miss the snow and get annoyed with these “southern” people complaining of the “freezing” temps in the 30s! LOL!
Hehe. I love how everywhere but in the Midwest and North East, “freezing” is just an adjective for chilly weather, and not actually a point on the thermometer.
Oh my goodness, what a cute little bear! Playing in the snow can be so much fun! Lovely pics.
I love how he’s “buried” in the snow! My kids have helped me appreciate our cold winters now! But I still don’t really like them-I just appreciate them.
That’s a fabulous way to put it. Appreciate. See the good in. Still secretly loath on the inside.
CUTE!! What great captures!
Huge snow piles! What cutie you have, and great shots!
Those are just adorable!
You buried your baby in the snow!?! I’m so proud of you for rollin’ with that idea. seriously. And, he’s so darn cute, to boot, with the little rosy cheeks and nose– he’s still pretty edible, ya know…. :) miss you.
So I’ve commented about this before but, seriously, it’s like we have the same baby sometimes. Leo was born July 12th and he’s always going through things at the same time as your baby. Here’s a photo of Leo in the snow (with me) wearing the same hat (his is inside out) and wearing a bear suit: http://twitpic.com/y96rg
O heavens that is an absolutely gorgeous photo of the two of you.
Plus it cracks me up! That IS the same hat and a matchy-matchy bear suit. I’d say they were separated at birth, but I KNOW I only had one baby… so that’s debunked.
Too fun. Say ‘hi’ to Leo from Micah/OBaby!
Thanks! Your pictures are always so beautiful. I love checking in on Obaby. I want to pinch those cheeks! Pretty much every post I’m like “me too!” and I always want to share, but I don’t blog. I’m glad that you do, it makes me feel less alone.
And now that I am sharing, here’s a photo i put together of what a typical day with the baby feels like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarahmeyer/4242387961/sizes/l/
Awesome pictures!!
AW, this post makes me feel warm inside even as I am glancing at OBaby sunk in a pile of snow. Lovely shots and very memorable ones down the road.
I was raised in South Carolina. Just over two years ago I moved to Western Pennsylvania. I have never taken my children to play in the snow. One reason is fear. I am so afraid they will get sick. Another reason is that I am not an outdoorsy kinda girl, at all. The third reason is I have never experienced snow before being raised in SC and all and I frankly have no idea how to play in the snow! LOL. Recently I have begun to regret this. We will be moving back to SC next month and I am sad for the experience that I never gave my children. Maybe we can do some winter vacations or something so that my children can have that experience.
