relative health

I want to be so mad, so frustrated, so scared of this sickness that is attacking my sweet baby, but I am choosing to find reasons to be thankful.

OBaby woke up at 5:30am this morning to nurse. His body must have need the extra rest, because his first feeding is usually closer to 4:00am. When DanO brought him to me in bed, he was clearly feverish and overheated.

I was sad for my baby, but I was also glad that his body is working hard against this.

He fell back asleep while nursing, but woke himself with coughing a few times. We nursed away the early morning hours and I think that soothed his throat.

I was thankful that my body is doing what it was created to do to help keep my baby healthy.

When he woke for the day around 8:00, he was still hot, but he looked up at me, as he always does, and smiled.

I was thankful for what a joy he is in my life.

We got up, I gave him Tylenol to reduce his fever, then I changed him into some lighter clothes. We turned the shower on and hung out in the bathroom breathing the moist air and playing peek-a-boo.

As he went down early for his first nap, I was thankful for medicine that helps him feel better and gives his body a chance to rest.

Sweet, sweet boy. This post makes me totally miss breastfeeding.

Mama, you are doing everything you can to help fight off the ickies, and I’m sure you’re little babe will bounce back in no time. Try somewhat forcefully patting him on the back while you’re sitting around in the steamy bathroom. It can help break up some of the mucus.

This post is what I’ll refer back to the day my [future] baby comes down with a hacking cough or terrible cold or scary fever. So sweet! I’m sorry that you’re going through such a sad and kinda scary time with him right now, but I admire your ability to still be thankful for the good.

I wish I could make him all better with DaddyArms™, but I’m not sure that would work…

Croup sucks. We spent the 3 days after Micah’s first birthday in the hospital with it. Cold air also helps – sometimes more than the steamy shower. The croupy, stridor sound is caused by swelling in the airway and the cold air helps to reduce the swelling and helps baby feel and breathe better. Bundle him up – big blanket and hat – and head outside for just a few brief minutes! They also suggested drinking anything cold he will take – that helps the swelling too. Good luck! Winter and colds and winter germs are so overrated and need to be over.

Great job staying positive and being thankful. I always have to remind myself to still praise god and be thankful through the storm. My prayers are with you and obaby. Hope he feels better soon!
