there will always be more

Dear OBaby,

You were born seven months ago today.

You would think that after seven of these month-birthday letters (ok, I think I forgot one somewhere in there) I would run out of things to say about how and why I love you, but I have not.

This month, sweet boy, you are downright playful. You can sit up and play with what’s in front of you, and you can worm-crawl to whatever catches your eye, but you would much, much rather ride around the house on Daddy’s shoulders or have me lay on the rug with you so you can climb all over me. I love seeing this boy in you, slowly coming out.

There have been so many more giggles and babbles filling our home this month! I have finally mastered your right-between-the-collar-bones-and-the-arm-pits spot that gets you every time. The neck kisses usually do it, too. Your laugh is absolute heaven to me.

The funniest thing lately is your affinity for all things prohibited. The book I am trying to read. The coffee mug in my hand. The screen covering our fireplace. My computer. The broom in the corner covered with dust bunnies. The cords under the TV stand. You are just so darned curious.

Can you say “Time to baby proof?”

You are slowly making your way in the world of solid foods, but you much, much prefer Mommy as the source of all things yummy. You enjoyed pear best so far, although I think avocado takes a close second.

I love to watch you figure out how to pick up the slices, hold them to your mouth, and bite a chunk off. It shows me just how smart and capable you are becoming. The best part by far, though, is the face that follows. The “What did I just put in my mouth?” face as you debate whether to spit it out or choke it down. You choose to swallow about half of the time right now. You are exploring food and it is so much fun to give you something Mommy and Daddy have on their plates, too.

You’ve been spending some time each week in the church nursery while I get to have a couple of hours with other mommies doing mom stuff and studying our Bibles. You had a very, very hard time the first week (and so did I (in fact I’m not sure whose time was harder)), but since then each week has been progressively better for both of us.

Things are changing with you so fast, baby boy. You are rapidly on the road to mobility and even, dare I say it, toddler-hood. But the most blessed part of this month has been this: as you have for the last seven months, when you wake up next to me every morning and look up to see me, the happiest expression of security and joy washes over your face.

Yes, sweet baby, whether it’s for entirely new reasons, or because of the continuation of the old reasons, there will always be more causes to tell you that I love you.

To the moon and back,

Mommy

These letters (and whole blog) are such a great idea for chronicling OBaby’s development/antics! I’m a listmaker/checkboxer (um…?), so I will be taking a cue from this idea when my time comes. Thanks for the inspiration! Happy 7 months, OBaby!

    Allison,
OBaby is unbelieveably adorable! I love this age, and everything you wrote takes me back to those days. *sigh* I’m entering into dangerous territory… I don’t know if we’re ready for a 3rd.
Love to you and the whole O Fam.
    Dinner soon??

Adorable OBaby! I really need to steal this idea on my blog before it’s too late and Bubbette is at Toddlerhood.

    Happy 7 Months!

    He is absolutely adorable!!

This is such a FUN stage!! When they’re exploring and moving around on their own and babbling. I love it! Just wait until he’s about 13-16 months old … walking around, starting to talk, really getting into playing … oooooh, that’s FUN stuff too!!

I better stop cuz I can find something fun and enjoyable about every stage lol

Be glad you don’t wear glasses!! I STILL have to tell our 16 month old to leave my glasses alone *sigh*

  12. It always astounds me at how fast time goes by. He is so darn cute! Every time my kids would go through another stage, I would declare it my favorite stage, but honestly I couldn’t decide which I liked the most. I like where my kids are now that they are independent, but still come running for a hug and kiss! Enjoy every moment!!
