We now interrupt the previously scheduled CBC Week posts for an incredibly important message about my vanity. Enjoy!
~~~~~~
I spent hours upon hours planning my wardrobe for this conference (which will be featured in an upcoming post. Promises.) but I did not plan for this:
I paid a lot of money to get highlights at a swanky salon and intentionally scheduled it for the week of the conference (a lady’s gotta have good roots). But then ‘highlights’ somehow translated into ‘please bleach my hair platinum blonde‘ when I was communicating it to the color specialist.
O. No.
O yes.
(Don’t say it. Don’t. I don’t want to hear that you like it because I don’t and it is So! Blonde! I can barely breathe.)
(To see just how different it is, click that ‘About Me’ tab up there and compare it to an older picture of me. I dare you.)
I tried really hard to talk myself into it. ‘It’s so summery!’ ‘It only feels like it looks weird because it’s a big change.’ ‘You’ll get used to it.’
Except O My Public Speaking did I mention the conference?! The 300+ people?!
I’m not a complainer. I’m really not. Even if you make my $5 coffee drink wrong I probably won’t say anything about it. But this is my hair. And public speaking. And 300 people.
So, I did it. I called the swanky salon back and… and… complained. ::gasp:: Tomorrow instead of running frantically around Target at the last minute looking for 3oz versions of the 47 different liquids and gels that comprise our daily hygiene regimens, I will be sitting back down in a salon chair and trying my darnedest to communicate “more natural, less Pamela Anderson”.
Wish me luck.
Oh no. I hope tomorrow goes well at the salon again…now I on the other hand need to get a little bit more blonde and soon!
while i will absolutely say YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL and THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP ME HAHAHA! i will also say i can see where, at least throughout the body, they over-processed your highlights. (: very happy that you said something – when paying so much for a service, and having it be something you’ll wear day in and out, you should be 100% content with the final look. i bet after tomorrow you’ll be thrilled – they can slap in some low lights and you’ll have lovely, multi-tonal color and will look O so fabulous for your conference! YAY!
good luck tomorrow! you’re eye color is so pretty, by the way.
cheers!
first of all: i hate it (but only because you told me not to like it–just so you know, my first reaction was, “she looks awesome, what is she talking about!), and i wish you good luck tomorrow.
second of all: the color makes your eyes look so green, and can’t wait to see you speak at cbc!
I DO love it and it IS summery! :-) But kudos to you for standing up for yourself. Good luck with the “do-over” tomorrow!
(sory… LOVE IT!)
But…. You’re smiling!! ? Don’t you like it a little? I am sure you look great no matter what! But most of all,
it should be what YOU want. :)
Your header said, O My (Blond) Family when I loaded the page… ironic =) But the hair is CUTE!
Good for you!
It looks horrible on you! haha, JK! I love blonde, but if you don’t feel right in your skin with that hair color good for you to go back & get it fixed! I dyed my hair too dark brown once and I just felt icky, so I can understand where you are coming from.
i think it looks great! but, i do understand what you’re saying. i’m not a complainer either but i would definitely call the salon if that happend to me. good luck today and i hope things all work out!!
I deliberately got my hair lightened to that color the last time I was in a salon … I took in a picture of Gwyneth Paltrow and said “I want her hair.” In my case, it actually made my hair look more like it had back in high school. But it’s still a pain now, because I’m too cheap to keep getting root touch-ups, and so half my head is dark ash blond, and half is pale platinum, and it looks decidedly odd. I’m definitely sticking with highlights from now on. Much less drastic.
(It IS very summery, though.)
(Found you on Twitter … came over here to check out the blog … in case you’re wondering who I am)
I’m not a complainer either. Like my brain wants to, but my face just smiles sweetly and says “Thank You”. But I will say: Doesn’t it feel so good to get something right that you put time and money into? I’m glad you called them back. [However, with that said, I think you can do that blonde. My mom got highlights 2 days before my wedding, and they were grayish...but I can see your concern about being overly blonde.]
Good for you! I always look back and wish I’d complained, and if it’s going to bother you that much I’m so glad you’re getting it taken care of!
OK FINE. I’M DOING IT. I’M CALLING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT MY MUSHROOM HAIR CUT. YOU WIN!!!
(oh wait. this wasn’t about me….)
(but really, I think I’m going to call and ask for it to be fixed)
(if you can do it, I can do it, right?)
(I may chicken out.)
(the end)
First off, I like it, but I know you don’t want to hear that. SO, I agree, a little more natural may work a little more with your swagger…lol.
BUT, it did make your eyes look AMAZING. Seriously.
Well you do pull it off well. But having been probably one of the last people to see you in person before you went and had it done I can vouch for the fact that, yes, it is a LOT lighter!
Good luck with the tone down (and no, you haven’t sold me on that salon just yet ;)
Too funny, you were one of the last people! But even my personal trainer who sees me once a week immediately said ‘WHOA, you got your hair done, didn’t you?’ It is quite a change.
Good for you for standing up for yourself! (Although I think the blonde is cute and summery!) Good luck with the salon this time! Can’t wait to hear how it goes!
I don’t think it looks horrible, I think it would look great on many people. But you’re right, it doesn’t look like you! I hope they fix it well!
Aw, well I have to say that I think it looks great on you! It really makes the color of your eyes stand out! I like it. But yeah, I understand that if it’s not you, then it just won’t work. My mom died my hair red one time. So sick.
Isn’t it horribly hard to find a stylist you trust who understand when you say blonde you don’t mean platinum? I have had so many time where I’ve had to go get my hair “re-done” after I let a highlight happy, scissor chippy stylist touch my crazy curls. On a side not I think your hair looks fab!
Your eyes look so huge and green and beautiful in that picture! And good for you for complaining. I recently complained (for my first time ever) at my hair salon and was happy I did.
I think if you’re going to pay for highlights (never cheap) you might as well get them to do it right! Right? :) Hoping for an “after after” picture. :)
The irony to me is I have been trying to get a hairdresser to make my hair look exactly like that for 6 months and it keeps ended up dark blonde, light brownish. Grr… It’s never quite what we want, right?
Oy. I didn’t have a chance to comment yesterday, but as someone who knows you in real life, I agree that (while you are adorable always), that’s too much.
So what happened? Did they fix it? Are you happy now? (Thinking about you tonight and praying.)
