I was sitting in a coffee shop during my ‘time off’ last weekend just blogging and enjoying the fact that no one was pulling on my pants leg and signing “up”, when a young woman practically hollered at me from across the cafe:
“I love your hair pin!” she shouted.
“O! Thanks!”
“Where’d you get it?”
“Etsy!”
“Who?”
And so I jumped at the chance to educate her about the bottomless awesomeness that is Etsy.com . I scurried her over to my laptop and showed her the beautiful collages of handmade items.
She was awestruck, as I remember being the first time I laid eyes on Etsy. It opened my world to the idea of buying handmade because goodness gracious there are so many beautiful handmade items out there. While I will be quick to admit that Etsy, like any retailer, can suck a consumer in and make us want things we otherwise wouldn’t have, the reality in our family is this:
We are going to buy stuff. Hair pins, soap, bibs, purses. Some necessary, some not. Why not buy that stuff handmade when we can?
Come to think of it, we are using a lot of handmade things around here lately, which is something I am proud to report. Here is a glimpse at O My Family’s favorite handmade items (some from Etsy, some not, all handmade):

Yep, we are a fan of handmade as well. Actually, my wife makes most of it. One of these days I am going to talk her into selling her items on Etsy.com. Right now she just doesn’t have time. With our three little ones, I can understand this.

I personally cannot sew or be crafty in any sort of way. So I turn to Etsy as well to help me out. I love looking at my baby’s things and seeing so much handmade lovin. Blankets, bibs, hair accessories…. I love it!
Next stop is getting some things for me!
Isn’t Etsy wonderful?? I think I am going to look into that goat milk soap…so neat!
I adore Etsy! Whenever I think of something we need I check there first. Like you said – why not buy handmade when you can? I just recently bought a “wet bag” for potty training my toddler on the go this summer. Cannot WAIT for it to get here!

I love buying from etsy and other places. I love that I can get cute and unique things that not everyone around me has one but I don’t have to break the bank doing it!:)

I just discovered the goodness of Etsy … and I’m in love! I talked to my husband and we decided that anything we need, we’ll check there first … or other handmade shops.
I didn’t know they sold goats milk soaps there …. I’m checking out that link NOW … we’re gonna need some soap soon and I’d love to go back to goats milk soap (we used to buy from someone, but she cut a lot of our favorite stuff out)!
