pennsylvania via prop plane

I took the smallest plane I have ever, ever, eeeehvuuuuur been on from Philadelpia to Harrisburg today. Have you ever been on a plane this small? So small that it needs propellers to stay airborne? So small that when the pilot sneezes the whole thing shakes? How about on a plane that small, shaky, and nauseating while still in the first trimester of pregnancy?

O yes, it was good times.

I’m pretty sure at one point Gussy and I almost died. We squeezed each others’ hands until they were purple. And prayed out loud. Lots and lots of praying out loud. I pictured myself in a huge, warm, deep claw-foot tub in the middle of a field of wild daisies at one point (which is the same visualization I used while I was laboring with OBaby). The sweet southern-drawled voice of our stewardess Alice over the PA system was also quite calming (although it was hardly necessary for her to amplify her voice for the 40 of us to hear her).

By the grace of God our shaky little air vehicle landed at our destination.

We took one of those prop planes from San Juan to St. Lucia for our honeymoon. Then we took a real small (10 person) plane to the Grenadines from St. Lucia. We could have touched the pilots controls from our seats. That was scary!

hhahhaa you are too cute. oh wait. i didn’t mean to laugh. that wasn’t nice. what i meant to say was that i am so glad that, by the grace of God, you were all able to make it there safely.

we used to have to fly in one of those weekly to get to our house in Idaho and the number of times we had to make unexpected landings probably should have had me concerned. but anyways, you probably have to take one on your way home, so i won’t mention such things!

    have a lovely time, allison!!

Oh my! I was on a plane like that once and I didn’t like it one bit! I live outside Philly and I see all sorts of planes every day. And every day I am thankful I do not have to be in any of them : )

I went to grad school in Gainesville Florida, and everytime I flew home, I had to take one of those tiny planes to either Atlanta or Charlotte. Yikes! Not my favorite travel memory! Glad you got to your conference safely!

Enjoy the conference, you girls are so pretty!

And yes, I rode a plane JUST like that from Calgary to Alberta in Canada. Hated every moment of it too.

Whew…not a big fan of those things myself! One time we flew on a “puddle jumper” through a bad storm. I was holding onto my hubby’s leg, the plane dropped and I almost hit him in the you-know-what! LOL…good times! The good thing was we were flying from Mpls to Central WI so the whole trip was over in about 35 minutes.

Have a great time at the conference!

I don’t mind small planes so much but add in the first trimester nausea and it sounds incredibly awful. Now that you’re there though, have a wonderful time!!

I feel like I could have written this exact same story due to many similar experiences. Small planes are no good. Hello Pasty Cline? Buddy Holly? John Denver? A Hovercraft seems like a much better decision than a itsy bitsy plane, no?

I’m so glad that you made it.

I grew up in the middle of nowhere, northern Canada, and those planes were the only way! I love them. A 19-seater doesn’t need a flight attendant so the pilot would just pull back the curtain to say hi, and I used to go up and watch them fly the plane. Seriously cool. I imagine pregnancy complicates it though. :)

I just flew in one of those to DC in May. I was seat 13A or something. I though to myself…how nice, I’ll be toward the front. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I was the LAST seat on the plane. I did lots of praying and arm rest clenching myself! Glad you maybe it safely and had a praying buddy. =)

Haha! I’ve never been on a plane before and would be scared to death! Although I’ve heard that smaller planes are actually better to be in than the airliners because if something goes wrong, they can glide! I still won’t be riding in one anytime soon!

Oh my gosh the same thing happened to me in my first trimester… tiniest little plane on the windiest day ever. Never experienced so much turbulence in my life, it was awful!! Hope your ride home is better!

My very first ever plane ride was on a plane smaller than that with a novice pilot. My boyfriend suprised me with the ride for a date. His friend was the pilot, we were wedged in the back, had to wear headsets, it was tiny but terrific! I married him (the boyfriend, not the pilot!)
