nature’s sports drink {winner announced!}

{Updated 6/15/12: Dominique who left comment number 52 won this giveaway. Thanks to all who entered!}

I remember thinking it sounded silly when my dad, a long-time runner and all-around healthy guy told me that chocolate milk is his favorite “sports drink”. Sports drinks to me meant brightly colored liquid that came in orange-capped plastic bottles, plus the mental image of my (number omitted) year old dad drinking a kindergardener’s drink of choice made me giggle. I was a skeptic.

(aside: At a very young age I was disappointed to learn that brown cows do not, in fact, make chocolate milk.)

It wasn’t too much later that I was training for a half marathon and, having read the ingredients on “real” sports drinks, I was in the market for something more, let’s say, real. I discovered the pure bliss that is a cold glass of chocolate milk after a good run. O, you guys. It’s heaven, it really is. And! And! It’s like, legit and stuff. Research published in the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism on young adults showed that chocolate milk is twice as effective as commercial sports drinks to refuel exhausted muscles.

    My husband is a coach and he uses chocolate milk as a recovery drink for his players and for our own kids. I think it is incredible that something so simple can be what your body needs after working hard! I am trying to get in shape myself this summer- this package would be great! Thanks for the opportunity :)
